      Hello

I was wondering if somebody might recognise Lathe Top Slide.

I bought this recently and found problems with a very loose nut and cracked/repaired body all not described by the seller.

That aside help identifying what lathe it came from would be very helpful!topslide1topslide2

Agreed, I would be very unhappy if the seller omitted to mention damage etc.

more hassle to send back post office not near so I’d rather find out what its from – I thought maybe shaper but then again looks abit weak for that set up. It’s something off some low end machine.

The dial is rather nice for a low end lathe top-side. In the era that appears to be from you’d be lucky to get any sort of  topside dial on a bottom of the range small machine.

Basic layout and construction certainly has a more shaper-ish air than lathe top-slide. Agree the overall design and construction is on the weak side, whether shaper or lathe. If it is lathe it’s not terribly clear exactly how it fixes to the cross slide. T slot is unusual on a British low end machine. Looks as if one side of the slot has been got at too.

              Strange.

there is a partial groove inside and the hex bolt probably served to lock and hold it onto a pin albeit of large diameter.

and yes I wondered myself if somebody had machined that slot at some point or that was just some peculiar feature of the design.

it’s still better made than most modern junk.

I don’t think I’ve ever spotted a top slide with that extra cutaway on top of the T slot.
Maybe another view from above would assist to identify it

okay thanks for all the input everybody, on careful inspection it’s a total piece of junk so I’m going to take bernard towers & tonypratt1 advise and send it back I have a too big collection of items that people have flogged on me that I can never rectify.
