Have an idea for catching the swarf in the coolant tank, I am a plumber by trade and when fitting new boilers we also fit on the return pipe a devise called a Magna Clean its basically two separate magnets in two separate plastic tubes, the water passes around them and any metal particles stick to the plastic tube to clean you just hold over a tub pull out the magnet and the swarf will fall of the tube fit together again and away you go, has any one done this already if so how did you get on.

Be patient, Alan. It can take a few days for a reasonable selection of people to read the forum. I've only just logged in myself this evening.

Would I be right in thinking your boilers don't get artheritis too? laugh could be good for older machines. But seriously it seems a good wheeze, with a magnet somewhere in the system.

At work ..We use magnetic seperators on grinders…on lathes swarf is generally settled out.in tank….if the chipconveror doesn't get it first…

If you do this think course..medium..magnetic…..other wise the trap will pack tight with swarf.."cemented" into solid lump by the finest particles….no fun draging that out…..

also beware magnetised fines may escape……all magnetic seperators I 've used , use AC electro magnets to prevent/reduce the magnetisation of these fines…. which would make your machine all furry..

have always found tights over suds return to tank work well for the fines…again in grinding…
