Can anyone recommend a suitable Propane ? torch for brazing. I need to replace a steering stem brazed into the bottom yolk of a motorcycle and also warm up tubes to bend back to shape.

A bullfinch is probably the way to go. Do a search for brazing and you will find loads of posts.

            Hi Chris

Start with a Sievert torch, variable regulator and a 2941 burner.

The kit can be readily adapted by simply changing burners to go from 0.25 kw to 84kw oh heat.

            They are readilly availablehttp://www.cupalloys.co.uk/sievert-heating-equipment/

The kit is supplied with all the technical help you may require to make your project a success.

            regards

            keith

Sievert are one of the best and the cheapest place to buy them used to be Hamilton Gas Products, it’s where I bought all mine.

Is it Braze or silver solder, if Braze then you will have a job with just propane and I doubt the Bullfinch one will be able to get enough heat into a large part like that. Probably have to go with oxy-propane.

                  Chris,

Particularly for the second of your requirements:

Have a look at Sievert's 'Cyclone Burners'  **LINK**

                  http://www.sievert.se/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Sievert-International-Catalogue.pdf

The availability of these [which are excellent] might well inform your choice of 'system'.

                  MichaelG.

Thanks for all the replies, I've had a kind offer from a local member to go and look at his kit which will help the decision. Reading other answers I may need something with more "Oumph" to braze the sort of section I am looking at doing.

I personally use a Rothenberger quick fire on map bottles. Can’t fault that thing, it’s gets stainless manifold flanges glowing so it would certainly be hot enough

There are a number of brazing videos on on YouTube posted by a guy who calls his channel 'Xynudu' (AKA Rob) He uses and recommends a Bullfinch 4100 and this is one of his videos:

                        Bullfinch Brazing Torch

The torch looks like a good piece of kit and I've promised myself one for this years birthday present smiley

I've used sievert for over 40yrs gradually building up a full set of nozzles & they're one of the best, till I got a flamefast hearth gas/air blower it only uses a few psi propane but it really gives out some heat plus I have a smaller torch for small jobs, the sieverts only used away from the workshop now.
