ball valve ratio?

Im designing a direct drive oil pump for my invicta as I have had no success with the ratchet type. I have an inlet and outley bore of 1/8". Both have springs to aid relocation but im not sure of what size ball for the seat. Im guessing steel is preferable to nitrile simply because of the added mass when relocating? Any simple rule of thumb? Ta.

hi nigel,

5/32" dia ball on a 1/8" seat works perfectly for me. i have always had a problem with a 3/16" ball on a 5/32" seat – the proportions are not quite correct, but the above is fine.
