          Martin,

Please excuse the pun but will grub around in the workshop to see what I have.
failing that there are 2 chaps who sometimes advertise in ME who are now retired but Myford specialist.

              Martin,

Please confirm the size you require as 3/8 sounds too large for most Myford applications. Do you want them to replace the two square headed screw with half dog points which are 3/8 BSF item KA26?

              Eric

yes that is correct Iam making the hemingway saddle chip tray and the original square screws

foul it so heming way recommend to use the grub screws which are used on the newer machines

As David says £4.15 for a pack of 10 on ebay.

Just enter 3/8 BSF grub screw in the ebay search bar

that's right he is the only seller as well. There is another seller that sells stainless 1 inch long grub screws

so I suppose I could cut them to length

                            Martin,

May I suggest you try your local Cromwell Tools branch who list these as Socket Set Screws with Knurled Cup Point under part number CTL – 603 – 2728A at an offer price of £60.44 + VAT per 100 in my 2008 catalogue. In the past I have found them oust helpful and understanding in supplying smaller amounts. Hope this info helps.

                                Emkay supplies http://www.emkaysupplies.co.uk/ list 3/8" BSF x 1/2" at 0.83p each.

First class firm, I would use no other, no connection to them except as satisfied customer!

thanks for directing me to AHC they do have a excellent stock and I will

use them in future they stock bsf bolts.

unfortunately they don't stock 3/8 bsf grub screws

I going to order from emkay supplies with a few other bits to make the order larger

I didn't think it was a good idea in the end to cut 1 inch long ones down

as they damage easily when holding them

thanks to every one for replying it is very much appreciated

I shortened a pair of longer grub screws to replace the 'orrible square headed ones, the back one always finished up under the tail of the top slide, I kept having to use the end of a 1/2" socket extension bar to get at it, very annoying!

I wrapped a bit of copper shim around the grub screws and held them in the 3 jaw chuck, shortened them by 1/4" and turned the dog point using HSS tool, job took less than 5 minutes.

Well, prompted by this thread – and with the memory of the contortions needed to get at the right hand locking screw under the top slide – I whizzed off an email order to Emkay Screws on Thursday evening. Delivered by postie at 09.30 today and fitted PDQ. Perfect!

The question is though why did Myford stick with the square headed, hard to get a spanner on, screws for so long?

Its a breeze now with a 3/16 Hex screwdriver nothing gets in the way

I think Myford put them on their newer Machines when they  run out of the square oneslaugh
