I am looking at attempting to complete an Allchin which was started by the grandfather of a lady in my village.  A great deal of the work has been completed, but the boiler still requires it stays, all the pipework and steam fittings are required along with the cylinder and all ius asociated parts.

Currently looking at the boiler with the intention of gettinga low pressure test and examination carried out by the boiler inspectors at my club.

Currently looking at making plugs to seal all threaded openings.

I have looked over and over at the plans for details of the fittings which puts the water into the boiler from the pump.  The plans call the bush in the boiler the WATER FEED BUSH.  There is no thread size specified it just says drill 1/4″ on the plans and in the book.  I’m guessing this is an eror and it should read 1/4″x40.  Can anyone confirm this.  I cannot see on the plans the drawing for the fitting which threads into the bush.  Can anyone confirm what it is called and which page of the plans it is on.

Whether I continue with the build depends a lot on the boiler status.

What is the concensus on best method of sealing the boiler stays.  The book talks of Easyflo solder paste. I cannot find this online.

Easyflo being CAD bearing has not been available for some time in stick or paste form. Don’t know if JM do a CAD free but Cup do 455 in paste form https://cupalloys.co.uk/products/455-silver-solder-paste-10g-syringe.

Will have a look at what I have about the boiler.

My Allchin dates from a long time ago but ISTR Bill Hughes specified bolted flanges for the water feeds, 8 or 10BA stuff? He was a bit of a stickler for keeping to prototype. In the image below they can just be made out, the other flange is more visible.

My firebox stays are sealed with Comsol which was the norm at the time.

Yes I just found it in the book, page 194. He says the clack is held with four 10BA studs & Nuts

Having seen the puctures and comments above I have now found The Pump Feed Check Valve on Sheet11.  The reason I was struggling is that on the pipework schematic on the same sheet the pump feed check valve is shown as a different type of connection with different pipoe layout.  I have no idea how Im going to get on making all these small brass and bronze bits.  I think some new eyes would be in order . 🙂

              Thanks,

              Colin
