I have a small foundation ring leak.  I am told this can be repaired  with Radweld

Does anybody have experience  of this and are there any problems with using it to seal the leak

Really, you’d need give a lot more information than that for anyone to be able to give a very useful reply:

        The type of boiler,

Working pressure (possibly considerably higher pressure hence also temperature than in a car radiator, so ‘Radweld’ or similar would not be suitable),

Shell material and method of construction,

        General condition of the boiler.

If you can attach suitable photographs, that could be helpful too.

              <li style=”text-align: left;”>I tend to agree

Boiler dia 7″ vertical for a lorry copper.

Was ok at steam test 3 months ago

The rate is  about 2 drips in 3 mins. However the pressure yesterday was up and down like a yoyo

One guy I spoke to had contact with radweld labs who said it would be OK.   It was for two boilers years between  them.

Can’t upload the photo at the moment it was  stuck on 58% for 10 mins.  I’ll do it later

I’m just trying  to avoid the massive task of taking the boiler out of the engine and I value more help and advice

As Nigel has said , is this the beginning of a more serious problem ? On new boilers in full size it was not uncommon for numerous things to be used to seal small leaks, but that was a new and sound steel boiler. Since it has just had a boiler test I would seek the advice of your boiler inspector.

The dog turd type of rad sealer was often Fullers earth, unlikely to be affected by the temperature, the pressure is another matter. Since it’s copper one cannot rely on corrosion !

Since you say foundation ring, failure could turn the boiler into an impressive rocket ?  Good luck.  Noel.

Another old school sealant was horse muck, not appropriate here. Have you tried applying a flat ended punch to the outside around the area of the leak. If it has withstood 2* hydraulic there is little chance of catastrophic failure. as others have said talk to boiler inspector first
