Fascinating geometrically and aesthetically, though oddly slightly unsettling at first to watch both the simple diagram and the physical machine!

I take it the model is of the full-size, wind-powered “Strand Beast”?

A construction series by Colin Tyler of a working model of the Darby Steam Digger was in ME starting in 1977 Vol. 143 issue 3559 extending to issue 3585. There is a picture of his model in the report of the ’81 ME Ex in issue 3653 20 Mar 1981.

If anyone can invent an additional secondary motion that could pick and collect small items, say the size of an M2 nut or a small spring, it’d be quite good to have a small army of Mini Strand Beasts constantly patrolling the workshop floor..
