Simple question (but probably different opinions): who supplies the best looking BA hex nuts and bolts?

The website is somewhat muddly, but the service and products are fine. I cannot comment on comparative cosmetics, though.

I used to get most of mine from Everit at the Guildford show, they were apparently Swiss made but I don’t think he is trading now.

EKP would be my next choice and they make the ones several of our other suppliers sell. Not bought much BA lately but I did find their 8BA nuts were not as nice as the other sizes.

Also with all suppliers now that BA hex is getting harder to find you may get a close metric or imperial size rather than true BA so check if that is important to you.

Ebay can be good for things like this. You often get to see the actual items being sold rather than just a stock image.

I have got to make two special 7BA hexagon headed bolts with a 3mm diameter fitting area in the middle. Not an off the self item! I shall have to machine them myself, but finding a small length of 0.170″ hex bar is a bit of a problem. Kennions have the bar but with the postage costs it becomes expensive.

If I had an indexing fixture it would be no problem, but I haven’t. I think I shall have to put a hole down the centre of hexagon bar to hold a piece of round bar so I can use it to index the six sides on the round bar. Now, have I got a piece of hexagon bar big enough? Never stops !!!

What you haven’t is that you haven’t thought through the problem.

I suspect you have at least a hundred suitable indexing fixtures in your shop.

Superglue a hexagon nut to a piece of round stock. It does not need to be concentric. Set one side of the nut vertical using a square to the bed of the mill. Cut a flat on the round stock. Repeat five more times. The stock of the square will move fore and aft on the mill bed at each indexing, but who cares?

Of course, you are all quite right, I am completely over thinking the problem. There are many very simple ways I can go about this, but thank you all for your ideas. Yes, I do have enough bit and pieces in the shop to complete my task, I had just failed to keep it simple.
