Hi Folks,

As part of the horizontal mill engine I'm building, I've put together a built up crankshaft. Now, I've never used Loctite before so how do I degrease the parts and which number Loctite would you recommend.

PS the shafts are 5/16" Dia silver steel and the crank webs are 1/4" X 1/2" BDMS

Hi Peter,

For this application I would use Loctite 638 High Strength Retainer:

Loctite

It may be a confession of sloppiness on my part, but I've never found retainers are that fussy about degreasing; a quick wipe with acetone will do it.

Loctite 620 would be a good one, you can get a cleaning fluid, but I just use meths.It sets in 30 min, or 5 min if you use Primer 1, I use a similar one from another maker Lokeal, can't remember the number. Ian S C
