        Hello everyone.

I will start marking the locomotive frames, and then be able to make their holes.

I mark the two sides of the to frames, or only one, and put the two together and drill simultaneously?

Mark out one frame, clamp the two together, drill a couple of the holes at opposite ends and then bolt the frames together. You can then drill the rest of the holes and shape the sides.

Remember, measure twice and drill once! I will not tell you what happened with mine but lets say its got eight holes full of rivets and solder!

Hi, I usually have frame steel a little longer than required, and then just tack weld them together on the ends, I then tack weld a thin strip of steel to the left hand side dead square to all the holes and cut outs to be marked out, for the rule to butt up against, this ensures that everthing is marked out from exactly the same datum piont, however if you are doing co-ordinate drilling the strip of steel isn’t needed. Tack welding the two together, ensures that all the holes are exactly in line and no bolts/screws get in the way for clamping down or drilling.

              Regards Nick.

                Hello

Thank you for your advice. I do like JasonB said, because the chassis is already cut to size, and I can not weld. The screws can hinder a bit but should not be big problem.

You could use tight pins in holes at each end, maybe roll pins. Ian S C
