      Just received an email all dressed up as if from PayPal, all the right colour and logo, with case number and so on, it's new to me because I don't have an account , though it may be well known to others who do.

      It runs along the lines that a dispute has been opened to repay me money, in this case usd650. Quite strange that, considering that I haven't sold or bought anything for this sum nor through this organisation, and it invites me to "View the Details". I expect that would want me to be dim enough to list some bank details, I don't know and have no intention of finding out,!

      Scammers don't seem to be getting any brighter 😄 Maybe Darwinism works in reverse order for this species, and the dimmest proliferate while the smart ones give up?

          Hello Trevor,

          A scam it most certainly is but don't run away with idea that the scammers are getting stupid, far from it.

          There are plenty of very convincing and sophisticated means of fleecing very cautious people in circulation.

          I'm sad to say that while there are still people foolish enough to answer the phone and be talked into taking all their money out of the bank, then giving it to a stranger who calls at their door later in the belief that he can be trusted to take care of it for them, simple scams of this sort will continue to operate

            You can report such scams here — report@phishing.gov.uk — its a government site collating cyber scams, whether it does any good or not I don't know but if more people send things in it may well help ?

                My friend had one today. He had set up a bank transfer to a guy he bought a night vision scope from. Which went through & he received his item.

                Today he received a txt saying the transfer did not go through & to click the link to verify the transaction. Now my mate is a pretty savy guy who restores classic bikes & is an MOT tester.

                So being the clever guy he is, what did he do. Yes he clicked the link & put details in that he should not have. He realised at the wrong moment he had cocked up & rang the fraud squad.

                Now all his cards have been cancelled etc etc.

                So yes anyone can be conned easily.

                Last week i had a Paypal dispute question , of which i knew to be false , so did not react.

                Be very careful people. It is rife out there. Nearly as bad as the dam Covid.

                Last year i had i over £7000 of fraudulant transactions on my Paypal account. Luckily Paypal sorted it out for me.

                Now when i do any payments & i do a lot, i get a txt with a ref No from Paypal on my phone to verify. Without that No the transaction will not go through. It is easy to set up & i urge any of you who use paypal to set this system up to stop any fraud on your account. Regards to all & stay safe in these crappy times.

                  Just had a text message stating "Lloyds Bank: You have successfully paired a NEW DEVICE on 09/11 at 16:14PM. If this was not you, visit: <followed by a link which I won't reproduce here>"

                  I've never been a Lloyds customer, and it's obviously a scam of some sort. Searching online reveals they are doing it for Halifax and other financial institutions as well, so watch out for it.

                    Thought it was just me, I have had loads of these “Your name has been selected in our prize draw” or similar. The recent one insists that my subscription to Norton antivirus is about to expire, strange, as I do not have a Norton subscription. I have got to the stage that if I don’t know the sender I just delete them

                      The new update from the bank is welcome from me. The one where any transaction , whether money in or out & credit card transactions, all send a ping to my phone to say what it was. About 30 seconds after the transaction. Very handy. Not sure all banks are doing it.

                        I had the Lloyds bank one the other week, referred it back to Lloyds. Easy enough to spot as I don’t bank with them.

                          Apparently reported losses due to PayPay scams alone amount to over 7 millonn so far this year. There re probably a fair number are not reported.

                            A friend received an email from someone in Portugal saying that he had won an Iphone 11 and he should send his address details. I advised him not to but he ignored me and sent his details. A few days later he received his Iphone!

                            So much for my advice.

                              I had a call on my mobile last week where the scammer addressed me by my first and surname. After doing 1461 I googled the number and was informed it was a particularly nasty operation.

                              If they know my name do they have my address?

                                  Same here; had an e mail from Barclays last week aasking to confirm standing order set up, usual thing supply my bank a/c etc… deleted!. Had the Norton one through twice this week last one today, I had cancelled store sign up last year when I bought Laptop… deleted e mail, be very aware guys, Xmas is coming & the scammers are getting fat don't put a penny in the scammers hat… devil

                                    It’s not only online and telephone scams that you need to be aware of, in the last two months my credit card has had fraudulent entries that I had to report to the bank. First time there were three fraudulent entries which had apparently been used to purchase online games using a computer whose IP address was in Doncaster, I live in East Sussex so not hard to convince my bank it wasn’t me. Second scam was an entry that appeared on my credit card as a payment to “Arkwright Road” an organisation that my bank could find no details of so they categorised it as a fraud; have a good idea where the fraud came from as a trader said his online card link wouldn’t work so he had to use the old fashioned paper swipe method so easy to use the card details and by flipping the card over they can read the security numbers on the reverse and have everything they need for a fraud. Bank has been brilliant, refunded as soon as I reported the problems but each time they have to change the account number and issue a new card, my bank has said that since COVID struck then fraud has rocketed and they are struggling to get on top of it. It seems COVID has been a godsend to scammers in which ever medium they operate.

                                      I recently received an e mail, supposedly from the Inland Revenue, saying I was entitled to a tax refund but they could not deposit it into my bank account. Please click link below and update my account details!!!!!! Yea right, I don't believe the IR ever had my bank account details. In the past I have received a letter in the post if I was entitled to a refund.
