Found this fine old guillotine metal shear at the local flea market. Aside from some extremely light surface rust it was in excellent condition… the blades still sharp as sharp. It was evidently only used by an instrument maker to cut thin shim stock for pipe organ reeds and the like.

I've tested it out and it cuts through fine shim stock like butter… and reliably to parts of a millimeter (!).

A search of the internet seems to show that the Dutch company that produced these shears is no longer in business. Also, I've not succeeded in finding any old manuals.

What I am wondering is if anyone out there has direct knowledge of the maximum thickness of stock this little beast can safely cut.

I am certain it could handle mild steel to 1 millimeter and brass or copper up to 1.5 millimeters. But how far beyond that could I push this?

      Any ideas?

This dealer **LINK** states for the same type but for a width of 600 mm for steel a max. thickness of 1.6 mm, stainless 1.25 mm and alu 2.5 mm. Niko.

@Speelwerk, thanks so much for the link and information. That gives me enough information to stay on the 'safe' side of what this metal shear can handle. wink
