      Hi All,

      We had a very enjoyable weekend in York recently.

      While there I called in Boyes. Never heard of the them before but apparently they are discount chain in the North.

      I picked up a set of small HSS drills. 20 in total from 0.3mm up to 1.6mm. Cost about £2.50 for the set, and they're ok, I have used a couple, only on non ferrous but they feel good.

      Also picked up a set of 5 needle files all with small soft feel handles, about £3.

      Worth a look if you have a Boyes store in your area.

          They also have a set of 5 HSS slitting saws in various thicknesses for about £5 and a pair of diamond coated (both sides) disks for a similar amount.

          From memory, the diamond disks are ~ 50mm diameter and the slitting saws start at around 25mm x 0.2mm & progress to something like 50mm x 0.8mm — if I remember correctly.

            Not all Boyes stores carry all items, though. The original store in Scarborough & the Skipton store are far larger than my local store in Brighouse, for example. Brighouse doesn't carry as comprehensive a range of hobby lines as Skipton – no Vallejo Model Air paints in Brighouse, just Model Color for example. So if you want something specific, it may be worth phoning the store you intend to visit to ensure that they carry the item – though I apprecaite that could be difficult if you don't know what the full product range is !

              There's one in Ripley I always drop into when I'm in the area. Very good value for money.

                Thanks for the info, a good excuse to get the Moto Guzzi out of the garage for a sunny ride to Matlock.
                Looks like the slitting saws are Toolzone, so we'll have to see how well they last
