Lathe drip tray mod for an ML7. Lovely stainless steel.

What you need is some good strong solvent, wirewool and a good bit of elbow grease.

      1) turn upside down and soak the edges of the back-board with solvent and leave for 5 minutes.

      2) Drill some holes through the back board so you can get into it. The solvent should start softening the glue so it comes off easier.

      3) Get a scraper and take out the honeycomb cardboard inside.

      4) soak the bits of wood around the inside edge with solvent and leave for 5. Prise them out.

      5) Get in there with solvent and wire wool to clean off the gunk glue. Be patient.

Voila. Stainless steel drip tray, perfect size for ML7 for £30.

I used some thing like this :- http://www.jjcraceandrally.com/ebay/tools-workshop/hamilton-large-drip-tray

or more likely this actual one :- http://www.airflow-uk.co.uk/Heavy-Duty-Drip-Tray.html

Only disadvantage is that it must be fully supported , because its quite thin also it needed a squirt of goo in each corner because I had doubts as to whether the corners were really oil tight.

            Hi Matt,

Thanks for sharing this find I've just picked up an Ikea shelf for my South Bend drip tray. You don't happen to remember what solvent you used to soften the glue by any chance, do you? I've tried several things (including a bit of heat) without much success so far

            Kind regards

            Darren

Darren can you link to the actual item please? The 5 yr old link above is long dead and I have tried searching the Ikea site but not found the thing you're referring to.

              Pete.

That part number refers to the Mossby shelf ( 119 x 28cm ), which it seems is no longer available.

                  Hi Pete,

Zebethyal's right, it's an Ekby Mossby shelf which looks now to have been discontinued.

For what it's worth, I picked mine up through ebay about 6 months ago – that may be worth checking
