I have a Boxford lathe and the drive belt looks to have seen better days (bit like me. )

I have seen various mentions that 'linked belts' are good performers and a worthwhile upgrade to some machines. – So would such a belt (see pic) be suitable for my Boxford or would I also need to change the pulley's.?

The existing belt is a 10mm width V belt.

The belt would have been marked on the outside if that is no longer visible it is probably easier to take the belt off and take it along to a local belt supplier who should be able to sort out a replacement.

Or give Boxford a ring on 01422 324810 see http://www.boxford-software.com/spares/X10Guard.html and if I'm correct the belt is a SPZ-737, "Z" section

If I had the option which I don't I would replace the linked belt on my Boxford AUD with a "normal" one but it has to be split to fit.

Thanks for the reply Bob.

I do know the size of the existing belt but I was wondering if the linked belt may be an improvement in decreased vibration.

You could try a new standard one as they are not expensive as a starting point, I can see no reason for a linked belt to reduce vibration but again nothing ventured gained.

I think the linked belts are more flexible, so will help to absorb any vibration. I remember reading that Tubal Cain replaced the secondary drive belt on his Myford Super 7 with a Brammer link belt and considered it an improvement.
