During the winds, I lost the roof of one of my shed which housed my wood. Over the last couple of days managed to clear it out and decided that a total rebuild will be the better option as the bottom is starting to rot can't complain it has been there a very long time.

Anyway during the emptying, I was very surprised to find some long lost pieces of Ali hidden behind some sheet material. The large sheet is 33" X 38" to give an idea of the size. the smaller piece I have been cutting pieces off for various projects. The other sheet I was given and is stainless steel

How many of us really know what we have squirrelled away hidden behind different places, and what is more how many have ordered stuff to find that we already had it.

I usually know what I have got, but don't know where it is! This includes tools and material. My classic was ball joint splitters. I had to clear my workshop during building an upper story on the top of it. I found 8 ball joint splitters! I needed one for my MGB a couple of months ago and! could not find a single one, so no 9 was purchased.

The late John Stevenson once confessed on this forum that he had a similar problem with angle grinders; in a clear-out he came across about 9 of those buried behind and under all manner of other stuff.

The stupid thing is when you have an item to put away safe,, what do you always say to oneself. I'll put it where I can find it. I won't forget where I put that. Gone forever. Pixies in the garage I reckon. It can't be me as I don't forget things. !!!!.

This is my excuse for never tidying up.

The worst thing is that you know exactly where the tool was before you had the clear up. However it is very satisfying when you can go straight to an item that you haven't used for five years and it is exactly there where it is supposed to be.

I am a passed master at putting things in a safe place and loosing them, but my worst example was last year. I was carrying a padlock and chain into the workshop. The key fell from the lock, and I heard it hit the floor at my feet. Never been able to find it since! Spooky!!

I share my workshop with a freezer that is an overflow for the one located in the kitchen which means that the other half visits my workshop when she needs items from the freezer; she constantly harasses me about the tidiness or lack of in my workshop. This goes on for so long until she decides a tidy up is called for, to preserve cordial relations I agree and move things around to resemble some form of order, the problem is that from that point on I cannot find things that I need. The workshop may have looked disorganised before the tidy up but I could invariably find items as and when I needed to, afterwards no chance, I similarly end up ordering tools that I know I have but have disappeared.

This is not the first time I have found something I forgot I had. And like many I can lose something to only find it in plain sight.
