The Rolls Razor kits are very common and often seen at car boots, usually incomplete and can be bought for pennies which is about what they are worth. Occasionally we buy them solely for the UNBROKEN small thin flat honing stone. These are nearly always broken being very brittle. The stone is of VERY good quality and sells well on its own when given a suitable solid backing which we now 3D print.
Regarding straight cut throat razors, we often find these and again are usually in appalling rusted and broken condition so basically scrap. Sometimes a useful source of small ivory for other jobs.
The few that are of good quality, cased and PRISTINE we do buy and they nearly always end up in Russia where they have a big fetish for all things “shaving”. Same with any top quality natural honing stones that we can find.
It is mind boggling what some of the natural stones can make; we just sold an “average” uncased Belgian Coticule for almost £100! Our best ever some years ago was a beautiful rosewood cased WASHITA stone where the case was in the form of an engraved lidded coffin and marked with the coffin makers name plate. Went back to the USA for £450!
The old saying about “where there’s muck, there’s brass! is so true!
