Gentlemen,

I'm in the market for material, I have one Web supplier that I use but it is usually in three metre lengths and on this occasion I dont need so much, locally there is nobody I can go to and as I cant currently drive it has to be delivered, any suggestions please.

Thank you for that, its nice to see that they are all similar prices including my usual source but I can buy it in shorter lengths, at the first opportunity I need to build a trolley for one of my Stationary engines, the material is for axles, supports and a turn table.

If its a full size engien then M-machine are usually the better on steel prices in the larger sizes. They don't have direct web shop but I usually e-mail them a list of what I want and lenths and ask them to contact me with total and then give them card details.

I've just been working on a cart for a 1/2 scale Gade but got all the bits as a kit, luckily the wheels come with all the spokes cast into the hub so a lot less work than the ones for my 1/3rd scale Galloway that I made from scratch.

Though I wish they had not sand blasted the steel axles

This is the engine in question, a 1924 single flywheel, caged valve Lister B

 

You can see the wreck it came on, she stands approx four feet high and isnt light,those axle castings what actual size are they, my wheels are cast chicken hut style 9" in dia with 7/8" holes.

Full size it would have been OK but at 1/2 scale the axles are 5/8" dia x 15" long with 7" wheels.

I covered my Galloway one starting here and then over the next few pages, you could double that up as the Galloway is quite a bit larger than the lister. Its a better cart than the Gade as the front axle can articulate.

The trolley for your Galloway is similar in style to what I will build, I use 3 x 2" box, in the form of a ladder frame, for the bearer frame and 2 x 2" box for the turn table and axles.

I like the tap, presumably the water hopper doubles up as a tea urn

The farm labourers used to put string bags in the hopper for cooking boiled potatoes or boiling eggs, I use it at the end of the day to wash my hands with, the tap is slightly large but a smaller version would be correct.

Ive owned a Lister A (besides many others) and had to lift it onto its trolley by hand, it was the heaviest thing for its size I have ever encountered! Three of us and it was nearly our undoing! And that's saying something after moving a Harrison 5L by hand over the weekend.

I have approx 20 Listers, my biggest an L type, I cant even lift one of its flywheels, I use a winch and engine hoist to lift them.
