You mean BMW. They are made in Germany by BMW then shipped to Goodwood and assembled, trimmed and painted. Even the engines have BMW badges on them!

They have no relation or heritage to Rolls Royce in Crewe.

Watched it, and VERY disappointed by a totally superficial programme. They seemed to think that Rolls Royce only ever made cars and aero engines, (and seemed to have difficulty getting the chronology correct).

NO mention of the B Series petrol engines that powered military vehicles, Fire Appliances etc, or the C range and D range of the oil Engine Division. Nor the K Range engines to meet the M o D spec for military engines capable of running, with adjustment, on almost any hydrocarbon fuel. (Known to employees as the Peanut Butter engine, because as well as DERV, Kerosene or gasolene, it would run on it!

Consequently NO mention of the enormous range of machines / vehicles that these various engines would power.

A programme driven by the same mindset that used the archive film from Perkins, (The Engine That Powers the World) and then never even gave a mention in the credits!

Not sure whether the problem is sheer ignorance, stupidity, or bigotry. ("Who needs engineers?" )

Having worked for both these companies and other world leaders in their field, have little time for the media. "Never let the facts get in the way of a story!"

Oh dear Howard! I just watched the program and thought it was quite interesting. From what you’ve said though I get your point and it would indeed have been very interesting to see some of the other stuff they made. I suspect time constraints prevent an in depth study but then I could have done without seeing John Lennons Roller.

In the car industry many things are not made where you think or would like them to be. For many years RR body shells were made at Cowley in the Pressed Steel factory, the body for the MGB was painted and trimmed in Cowley and sent to Abingdon to get the suspension and engine which were also not made in Abingdon, although widely regarded as the home of MG they actually made very little there. The engine in your car has every chance of being shared with a completely unrelated manufacturer. Travel round the world and you will find many cars turn up with different badges on them.
