Myford spindle drive

I have lost the drive between the headstock pulley and the first gear in the low speed back gear. Is the drive via a key or a shear pin? Intermitent cutting on a faceplate did the damage and I hope it is reasonable uncomplicated to fix after removal of the mandrel assembly.

Ouch.

I think I am right in saying all Myford spindle drives are by woodruff key. They did use pins for gear couplings on lathes up to the ML4 before switching to keyways there as well..

Not sure what you will find when you take it to pieces.

Just a thought before you do that as you don't say which model Myford you have, but it could just be the manual key for back gear has been shaken out of engagement by the shock loading from intermittent cutting. Good luck anyway

The pulley is just a press fit onto the bronze sleeve gear.

Drop of Loctite will do the trick.

Thanks, Brian and John, I'll keepyou posted with results of my investigation, I hope it is not a wood ruff key or I'll need to cut a new key way!
