      Hi everyone

i am the new owner of a mk2 dore westbury milling machin i purchased it from someone who also had a myford lathe, the lathe was sold sepertely

Ive been given a whole host of bits and pieces for the milling machine however im not sure what some of the items are for and if i have been given them by mistake, perhaps should be with lathe or there may be tooling with the lathe thats suited for the mill

so does anyone know if there was ever an accesories list for this machine or maybe some pictures that i can try and identify the items??? I can take some photos tonight and post them

i just want to make sure me an the owner of the myford have all the correct bits

          Hello Nathan,

That's very public spirited of you. I built one of these mills over 20 years ago and the only 'accessory' offered for it was a power feed gearbox for the X axis. That too was another kit and it would fit in place of the support for the manual hand wheel for the X axis.

It would be recognisable as an aluminium box with a Parvalux motor fitted to the outside and a small three sheave round belt cone drive to give three fixed speeds. It would be quite a bulky item, I built that too but never fitted it as it looks rather clumsy.

Today I think power feed might be better served by some adaptation of the mains motor out of a paper shredder

            Hello Nathan,

It may not be obvious – machine tools are inherently flexible it will largely depend on what you have, what you want to do with it, and how you prefer to work!

Some things, like clamps or MT-taper tooling are fairly generic. Something like a dividing head could be used with either but is most 'comfortable' on a mill. On the other had, a set of change gears are probably meant for the lathe (unless they go with a geared dividing head…)

Best to put up a photo and we can try and help work out what is what, and if there are any 'odd men out'.

            Neil
