Ive got regular silverflo 55 but its a tad too runny for the job I have in mind. I need a relatively low melt which isnt as free flowing, suitable for steel/copper bonding. Anything availible?

Cup do make one that forms more of a fillet but that may have been a cad bearing one.

Give them a call on monday.

If its just running where you don't want it then use a barrier like tipex

Tipex did not think of that only used it on a sec's botty she was very tiddly, it was a nice photocopy, after 20 plus years still going around. Ah well them were the days (you could get it in different colours we used the lot).
In my 70s now can only dream on. Now back to Tippex, should imagine that it would set solid, but would need an awfull lot depending on the fillet. Talk to Keith he has I am sure forgotten more than I will ever know on this subject.

I want more of a fillet joint – quite a big gap between tube and hole to fill

Yes the one I mentioned was supposed to have better gap filling qualities.

Hardest thing will be getting that steel hot enough as I think it also had a higher melting point, some where between silver solder and braze.

Hey Springbok, never mind the silver solder or tippex, tell us more about the sec,s photocopied derriere!! I can still find the required coordinates without needing a photocopy or marking that area!!

                      Hi fizzy,

Reduce the silver content of the alloy. It decreases fluidity promoting fillet forming/gap filling characteristics. It also increases the melting point of the alloy allowing any future silver soldering operations to be done using your 55% slver alloy without melting the first joint.

Suggest you opt for the 38% silver cadmium free alloy. Melting Range 650 – 720 deg

Normally there is no need to alter the flux being used.

But for maximum strength and economy try to control your radial joint gap to about 0.2mm.

                      The alloy is readily available.

                      regards

                        Hi Keith
Thought you would come up with the answer. please give my kind regards to your good lady. Everyone if you are at a show and spot the CupAlloys stand go up you will get as much information as you need in an friendly informal way and prob go away with an armfull of bits.

And Oh Nathan the sec now has 3 grandchildren.
Talking about grandchildren one of my grandaughters was 21 yesterday and the Mathew was hired for the occasion. what a ship if anyone wishes to model a small ship that crossed the Atlantic and I studied the ship more than anything else (must have been to, to many parties in my lifetime) it is in detail fantastic and worthy of a model and as it is there to photo, measure and I am sure that the trust would provide drawings,

If the gap is too big, try filling it with bits of metal to reduce the size of the hole, a bit of copper wire might just do the trick nicely. Ian S C
