Hi All,

I was doodling earlier today, planning a fabricated standard for a simple oscillator.

Could I invite comments on the rough sketches below.

I would like use JB weld for all the joints preferably without any other mechanical fixings.

The standard will be around 80-90mm high.

My plan would be to do all machining after it is fully assembled and cured, i.e machining the face and drill/reaming the crankshaft and trunnion holes.

I would add fillets to all the joints with the idea of giving the final appearance of a casting.

I have limited experience of using JB weld, my gut feeling is this would be a strong structure, but I do invite comments, thank you.

That looks like just the way I would do it for either JBWeld or silver soldering. It will certainly be strong enough just make sure mating faces are clean and that you use the "original" JBWeld as that is the strongest.

Hi Geoff on my wobbler generator I made a suport for the generator from brass and I soft soldered it with no problem. I would be inclined to do a combination of both methods solder the parts together and fill with JBWeld to make it look like a casting.

Thanks for the replies.

I considered soft solder David. I have been experimenting on some brass joints with bernz o matic silver bearing lead free solder and templers telux soldering flux and you do get an incredibly strong joint. It may still be a way forward

Jason I was delighted that you concur with my gut feeling about JB weld. I shall proceed with confidence.
