EN1A Leaded steel

Hi

Can anyone tell me if en1a leaded steel would be ok for cylinder liners as opposed to cast iron. The piston would be aluminium with cast iron rings

I have used it on model aero engines with all iron pistons and it's quite happy at 8000rpm so should be fine on a slower reving engine like your marine one.

Allow about 0.003" per inch dia on the piston so it can expand.

Yes that will be, I'm not sure if en1a is better or worse, I suspect the answer is application specific.

Were you using CI pistons lapped to suit bore and no rings ?

Yes lapped cylinder and then piston lapped into to the bore with 1000g SiC powder and oil.
