Having just read a thread where several posters gave their full email addresses, could I just suggest that this is NOT a good thing to do on a public forum.

"[email protected]" is an easy thing for scraping software to recognise and then send you an email with a nasty attachment that you won't want on your computer. Best practice is to put at least "name [at] domain dot com" or send a PM with your email address.

Us grumpy mods usually remove email addresses when we spot them.

That said, my mytimemedia email address is all over the site and I get very little spam that isn't blocked automatically.

email harvesting from web-pages judging from my near 20 year experience of having my contact address on an open web page is very much a thing of the past – maybe 1 or 2 a week always caught by my spam filter (a professional paid for one) down from the several hundred a week 5 or so years ago. That said I do not open attachments from 1st time posters nor do I allow the utter stupidity of looking at HTML coded emails that could contain javascript – likewise any email that uses encoding of such HTML text is ditched immediately tho some ‘honest’ organisations such as the British Library tend to use this trick – I see no good reason why plain text emails cannot be used thos I guess it is the need to handle all languages’ character sets in the same way that is the cause.

Had my email addy on many sites including P2P forums and not had any problems. I could count the "bad" emails on one hand that made it through my spam filters in the last few of years. It makes me wonder why anyone would open a link from someone they do not know or were not expecting to contact them Just follow the standard advise that is all over the web on email use. I concur with Frances IoM above.

              regards
