          .

This is one of the things I wish my Boxford had.

I have considered drilling and tapping my cross slide to take something like this **LINK** that could easily be removed when not required for 'line boring' and such.

                Boxford spares list a Tee-slotted cross-slide, part no. 3656-6A @ £100.22. , +VAT presumably.

                I think that's for the older models, ie A, B, C etc.

Tony Griffiths at **LINK** has boxford T-slotted cross-slides but at an eye-watering £200 +.

For perspective, there was one on ebay recently which I think went for £130

                      .

I am not for one second implying that £200 ish is not a lot of money for an item that has a feature that may only be seldom used for it's T slot capability.

But if one considers the material cost and the amount of machining required to produce the item to a satisfactory standard it's actually not a bad price for a new one.

Maybe a nasty pill to swallow though.

On my south bend i turned some dovetailed round spigots to enable you to fix things directly to the existing cross slide with the top slide removed of course. Certainly a lot cheaper option that can be done easily.

Similar is detailed here, the way of fixing the spigot to whatever plate or solid boring bar holder is up to you.

                          Kevin,

You may like to consider whether you need a new cross slide at all. I contemplated a similar modification to my Asian 9 x 20 lathe some while ago. Even purchased a secondhand Myford cross slide in preparation for it. I got a fair bit through the mods when I sat back and re-appraised the situation. Comparing the two cross slides, I realised that there was so little difference in the overall dimensions, that I could probably, quite safely, mill some tee slots in the original cross slide, thus avoiding much butchery of the topslide. Long story short, I did ( with much trepidation, mind you ) and the end result I find entirely satisfactory. Obviously, your cross slide may not be up to it, though I very much doubt that. Only you can decide. I am not familiar with the Boxford, though I suspect, if you are contemplating a Myford part to replace the existing one, it must be of similar size. Good luck. Here's a couple of photos to give you some idea of how it turned out – from my album ( Cross slide Modifications )

                          Before:

                          Asian original cross slide

                          and after:

                          With the topslide re-fitted

                          Best of luck,

                          John

FWIW John Ward has quoted me £100 + postage for a T slot cross slide for my Boxford 'A' , today.
