Don't know the lathe but "Z" is normally an abbreviation for number of teeth (from the German Zahl for number).

It is possible that the same lathe, in another colour scheme is imported by someone else, and details for that machine, whatever it may be, could be of help.

By the looks of what is shown on Google, in the Axminster Operator Manual, there may well be something similar in the Warco or Chester range.

Unfortunately, the manual, on page 17 /18. refers to using the controls to cut threads, but there does not seem to be a table of threads and the settings to cut them.

It will mean comparing specification details to find an equivalent machine, and then to search for a thread cutting chart for that machine.

              Hi Robert,

Can you post a readable photo of the gear settings chart stuck on the front of the headstock?

Mine identifies 4 'Z' positions – it means the axles on which change gears are mounted as necessary to achieve threading ratios. I guess your chart is trying to impart the same information, and all we have to do is crack the code.

lathe should have come with some change gears, Z is the gear on the end of the gearbox input and needs changing to the one that corresponds with teh tpi you want to cut then set the knobs to suit

Also not that the first row uses a 24T as the first gear and the second row 48T
