Would anyone know what size I need to get please..??

      The inserts are TCMT 110204…

      Thanks!!

If it’s an M2.5 screw then I think it’s a T8. I find screwdriver type better than flag style drivers and are harder to mis place!smiley

That’s odd, the TCMT 1102 seems to have a 2.8mm hole through it so should take an M2.5 screw?

I have several tools that use M2.5 Torx screws and the driver for them is T8.

If it does turn out to be a T8 Alan I’ve got several T8 Flag style drivers I don’t use so you’re welcome to one.

I have a “Little Hogger” set of milling cutters that I got from Chronos and one of those takes inserts that look like TCMT inserts but are a little thicker I think. I’ve only ever got replacement inserts from Chronos and these use an M3.5 Torx screw that requires a T15 driver which comes with the set.

This is quite interesting. I have a large selection of Torx insert screws ranging from M2.5 up to M6. I have several lengths of the M2.5 screws and having just checked they all take the Torx T8 driver.

Looking some more though I found there are some M2.5 screws with a smaller head that take the T7.

Which tools take which screws however remains unclear!

Different inserts can have different angled CSK holes so a steeper CSK needs a smaller head and therefor smaller Torx. Also varies between make, my Glanze ones are all T8 but I have others that need T7

Although the little hoggers has a CSK screw the inserts are not countersunk and they have no chipbreaker so are not ***T more like TCMA

Yes I noticed that from the APT site Jason. I do have a T7 driver but I’ve never required it. All my tools with M2.5 Torx screws are T8.

Jason, are there any suppliers you recommend for the little hogger triangular inserts?

I don't use mine a lot and have only bought then from Glanze/Chronos though last time I ordered they were OS of teh shape I wanted.

I did try my T7 flag style driver on the screws in my Arrand face mill before offering it to Alan, but from what Vic says there is clearly some degree of variability in the fit in the heads on screws of this size.

Perhaps Alan should also equip with a T8 driver to cover all the bases!!

                            I 'THINK' that I have a T8 driver…

It fits the glanze tools for the lathe… But its too large for the facemill…

I’ve got a spare T8 if you need it Alan. I bought a pack of them to give to friends with some tools I made for them.

Apparently it’s a TNMA 1103 according to Chronos.

In the light of this correspondence, I tried a T8 driver on the Torx screws in my Arrand face mill this afternoon; it was too big as he too has discovered.

                                  Regards Brian

Just to confuse things some companies like Sandvik use Torx Plus screws on their tools. They are designated IP for Internal Plus on the drivers. Screws and drivers are said to be not interchangeable with regular Torx. Picture here:

                                      Thank you Brian!

TORX key has arrived, and as it says 7 on the flag,

                                      and fits the screw snugly,

the size for the Arrand facemill is a T7…

                                      Inserts turned… and job finished!

That size also fits the TORX screws on the carbide tooling that Arrand used to sell many moons ago; they too had the same size of tip ( TCMT 110204)
