3.5″ Gauge Tich

I'm currently rebuilding a 3.5" gauge Tich. The reverse gear if fitted to the left hand side. If I fit the bypass valve to the tank on the same side theres vey little room to operate the reverse gear.

Is there anything wrong in fitting the bypass valve to the right hand tank that will contain the hand pump? All the tank sizes are as per planes and teh reverse lever if fitted again as per plans

In principle, there's no reason why you can't put the bypass valve on the right. Make sure there's a decent balance pipe between the two tanks.

The bypass valve needs to be connected to the axle pump only; if you connect it to the hand pump, you'll find that you'll be pumping away with the hand pump at some point, wondering why the water level isn't going up. And yes, I did, on one of my locos; I had to devise a Cunning Valve Affair so that it didn't happen again…

The bypass valve can go either side as convenient. It doesn't even have to be in the tank, sometimes a separate valve is used, typically on the cab floor, with a pipe to the tank.
