I have a 6″ vertical and my superheater elements are copper. I see no good reason, the more so in a vertical not to use copper easy to make and easy to repair or replace. Put a solid copper block on the end (hot ). Noel.
I would have thought with it going into a 28mm pipe you could probably bend a “U” shape and avoid solder or braze, subject to the diameter of your S/H tube. Maybe even a lollypop shape would work as you could feed it up from the bottom with plenty of room for the nuts on the tube ends.
Greetings Dougie, if the superheater is to be exposed directly to the fire, i.e. the radiant type, I would much prefer to use stainless tubes, whereas in a non radiant situation copper would be OK.
