Zero bids with just 8 hours to go. Guess the market will sort him out.

I have seen many things over the years on eBay that cost more 2nd hand than new. Some people just don't bother to research prices or shop around.

Yes there is some sort of thrill about what they "won" on eBay. Hell of a prize paying double is.

Don't think it is a 'dodgy' advert as the seller joined Ebay in 2001 & has good feedback, also he is open to offers.smiley

You see the same problem time and again with lathes and other machines. The Ebay algorithm convinces sellers that their clapped out ML7 is worth the same as one with all the bells, whistles, chucks and hand maidens .

£22 for p&p, I could pick it up and have petrol money left over from £22. I think my car would do 120 miles and back for that much money.

Nothing new here. It's happening thousands of times every day on eBay – which is, in itself, but a small part of the time-honoured practice of sellers taking advantage of ignorant buyers in all walks of life.

                            I don't see anything remarkable.

Regarding P&P. The clue is in the second P. Bit of a no win situation as people want their package to arrive safely but at the same time often only want to pay for the first P (of course the moans start when something goes wrong!!!).

I get used packaging free from work, others don't. Then we have printer costs and insurance. It's hideous just to say a parcel weighs x and ignore other related costs.

                                    Hi All,

Not sure if everyone knows this:

EBay take 10% of ALL shipping charges from business sellers on ALL shipping, APART from the normal fees for a listing and sale.

Does not sound much? It does up when we spend over £17,000 annually on postage in our local post office!

                                    Cheers, Martin

That's because so many people were avoiding seller fees by selling buy-it-now items for next to nothing with crazy P&P costs.

The postage price is fair provided its fully insured. Hermes UK with £300 insurance is about £18 for that boiler, add in box, time and packing material and it ads up. I (PSB) only charge the courier cost as I get to recycle boxes for free. I dont charge for my time or fuel to take them to the shop as customers seem to think you are somehow ripping them off if you do. As for the price of said boiler….£400 – £500 would be top dollar. It may be described as new but who knows what it might have been through, and both gas jets will almost certainly need replacing if its sat all that time (I have yet to figure it out but if you leave a gas jet sitting without use it will almost always block up over time. Oxidation perhaps?).

                                                  Neil,

I get what you say but still a GREAT extra earner for EB all the same…..

We always use recycled packaging as much as possible, all our neighbours and friends save stuff for us but we still spend approx £1500 pa on new packaging etc.

We have very good postage ratings for our stuff which is nice.

I have to say I have got some good deals on eBay. £1040 for an ML7R with a Rodney milling attachment both in A1 condition, £27 pounds for a Rapidor Manchester saw in A1 condition, £170 for a Meddings MF4 drill and 170 for a Dormer 108 drill grinding machine. I collected all these items so some diesel/ petrol was also a manageable expense. I have also bought numerous small tools for very reasonable prices. I have seen the Rodney go for more than I paid for a lathe and Rodney, I suppose people pay what they think something is worth but if you don’t study the market before you jump in then more fool you.

                                                      Mike
