I have watched a few YouTube videos of people making the single dovetail type toolholders and was wondering if anyone as made the Dickson type toolholder for use on the Myford S7 ?

        Cheers

I think Thaiguzzi, if you search through his posts/photos

Got the same job to do myself at some point, as I've just bought a 90° horizontal milling cutter for the grooves.

            Hi Harry,

I measured up my existing tool holders, averaged them out, draw up in CAD & took the file to a water cut company, 2 days latter they rang to say the first one was done, would a care to come & pick it up & give it a try before they did the rest. I fitted great! No adjustment needed.

            Cheers Kerrin

Yeah, mine were for my Boxford. Have made 19 in total so far, 11 in steel and 8 in aluminium ('cos i ran out of steel…).

Getting the correct fit on a Dickson type tool holder is a lot more difficult than on an Aloris style holder. On the Dickson there are two Vs that have to be parallel and an exact distance apart. I admire those who are up to that challenge.

I'm also planning to have a crack at making some.

I bought some from AR which are great. Topped up with a few more from RDG or Chronos, but there was a fair amount of variability between them, some perfect, others not so. The AR ones are much harder steel which is good unless you want to mill a bit off them so you can use 12mm shank tools.

Videos make it look so easy, but from experience it never turns out that way (for me).

Not that difficult for a careful machinist, a mill with a tilting head would have no problem. Some people think dovetails are difficult as used on the Aloris style, so pros & cons for both types.smiley
