I did wonder about something along these lines once but based round a short portacabin

Maybe they removed the milling machine.

Doh – the edit was to add several ? marks at the end of the title.

Remember that anything for the MOD was

Specified to a requirement that had nothing to do with actual needs or reality.
Was made by the lowest bidder
But was at the same time vastly over-priced
            Never really worked
If used was subjected to every possible miss-use without thought of possible damage to equipment
Is only for sale because it is obsolete

            etc

I had the Commer version and pulled a 27.5 KVA generator all over Germany during my time there. We were always short of drivers and night moves were hazardous. One thing was if we stopped anywhere we would start the generator and have a brew up. One time we were on an exercise and the Umpire deemed we were to have been destroyed by the enemy and had to stop for 3 hours, parked up alongside a grave yard and Bluebell radios in and asks where we are, the reply was ,' We are having a heavenly breakfast' Uncomfortable to sleep in and store all the gear. They come complete with what is called a G1098 kit, drills taps and dies and a host of other goodies. Keeping track of the items was hard as other engineers borrowed them and forgot to bring them back.

I looked at one a while ago (well … got the close up pictures by request) … there was a light patina of rust on all the ground metal surfaces. And the expected tooling was not included.

Also … the mill seems to be mounted at the back of the lathe.

We ran an article on one of these, or very similar, in MEW a few issues back.

No! Surely not. You must be mistaken. I can't believe any engineer would do such a thing.

I would have put in a bid but it looks like somebody has nicked the drill chuck key off the chain so won't bother nowwink 2

I reckon it's a bit over priced at the moment but after it's been there for n months ……………….. ??

Not that I will be tempted.

Come the nuclear holocaust you can carry on with your hobby and ignore the mayhem going on outside.

                          Yeah right!

Spent some time in Germany in those cabins myself. We had them for various roles. I just recall a low roof and continually banging my head on all the sticky out bits.
