      Whilst shopping in the local Lidl in the heatwave at the moment was just musing as to how much it would cost to cool a shop like that? a day? are we talking £100, 400,1000?

      Anyone have any idea?

          Ruthlessly simplifying and summarising what Mrs Google says :-

          Under UK conditions around 0.5 p per hour per cubic meter of room volume would be of the right order.

          Mrs Google also says that typical LiDL store volumes range from 25,000 to 100,000 cubic metres. So maybe £125 to £500 per hour. Probably more in a heatwave.

            Big-Four format stores are typically incurring £400,000 in energy bills each year. – £1095 per day.

            The True Running Cost of a Supermarket

            Both Lidl and Aldi stores local to us have recently been rebuilt totally;

            Lidl was a new build on a new site, Aldi closed down, demolished and built new on the old site, both have flat roofs with PV solar, I think it’s a mandatory requirement on new builds here.

              As another datum, my 30m^2, 105m^3 shed uses 4.6kWh/day at the moment to keep it at 21°C. But I built it with 5″ of PU foam in the walls and roof and 4″ of EPS under the concrete floor. At that rate it’s about .5p/day per m^3.

              Low footfall and very low air changes compared with a supermarket and not running yards of relatively open freezers and chillers.
