Since Arceurotrade is  no longer in operation I am wondering if another company (or companies) now offers tooling and accessories for a mini-lathe? At this time I am looking for the special change wheels to allow cutting metric threads, fine(r) feeds etc. Thank you!

Have a word with Luke or Hugh at Amadeal as they sell some gears for the generic minilathes. let them know what you have in the way of gears and leadscrew pitch and what you need

can it be done for less than the £62 that the gears cost , and how long does it take to do the ELS convertion.

Plug & play ELS kit would be about £130.

For that you get the option of other pitches that your £62 gear set cannot do so don’t have to buy additional gears. Thoose pitches are exact no fudging metric on an imperoal screw or the other way round with small errors. The ability to thread or turn upto a shoulder at a decent cutting speed. Switch straight from screw cutting to power feed without having to faff with gears each time and several other useful features. No need to ask someone on a forum what gear train you need to obtain a pitch you want.

As the kits come with all the brackets, pullies and belts it should not take long maybe a couple of hours tops. Gathering the parts yourself might be a bit cheaper but will take longer. Or buy a new lathe ready to go with an ELS

An interesting idea, Adrian.  Would you care to explain how an ELS would be controlled from a tablet using TouchDRO?

When Jason reviewed the ELS lathe I thought it was great but I didn’t like the small screen/button UI even though he said it was perfectly usable.

If you have Touch DRO then you already have a bigger programmable screen available, so when this thread (apologies to Dunc for drift) brought it to mind again I did a search and found a couple of projects bringing the two together, for example here.

When I asked for clarification, I was explicitly asking about Yuri’s TouchDRO system and its integration with an ELS.  I tried watching that video in your link, but found it disjointed and difficult to follow.  The bloke waving his phone about starts the video description with “This is a babbling….” which is accurate but off-putting from the outset.  The ELS he shows is a product called Nano. I don’t see much, if any, difference between what is in the video and an ordinary ELS implementation.

End of thread drift.  Sorry, Dunc.  Jason’s ideas are well worth your consideration.

Ah, I see I have “hooverised” my terms – it is a tablet based DRO which has been integrated with ELS, not the specific TouchDRO product. That will have to remain on the wish list, but I still think this sort of system should be the way to go.

I agree the video is, as the creator admits, sloppy and rambling but the principle appears to be that you have a single large display showing x/y positions for the tool and then a set of selectable modes for either freehand, turning or threading and the ability to move between them without losing parameters.

I couldn’t have explained the benefit of adding ELS any better although I have 2 axis Rocketronics but that is just because I have gout in both hands & struggle to hold & turn handles for any length of time.
