looking to buy a new 10" chuck for my student. it comes without a backplate. has anyone turned down an old faceplate and used it as a backplate for a chuck?

i have an old damaged L0 taper faceplate that would be ideal for a conversion, what are peoples thoughts on this?

I suppose it depends where the chuck holes come, most faceplates are quite thin except for the rim so less to tap and you would also have to fit the PCD between slots

You said it would be ideal for a conversion, and without pictures to prove that, how are we able to comment?

I used a few chucks mounted on faceplates when I had my student. I didn't bother turning the faceplates down as they were far enough out of the way as not to cause problems. I simply drilled and tapped the back of the chucks to match the faceplate slots.
