But can you fit it into your toolbox?

No more manual than any tool that derives its power from somewhere else other than a man (or wo-). I don't class an electric drill as manual either. Portable, yes (well maybe). Handheld, yes (the cutting head). Manual, no.

That may actually be a genuine ray gun smiley

Nothing new the thunderbirds had these 30 years ago 😄

I would like to see the rest of the machine , i suspect the power supply would be a fair lump of equipment !

Looks like a handy tool for safe breaking

                        Hi

I used to work in the same building. Yes XD 351 the power supply is about half the size of a family car and the same weight! the laser is feed down a fibre approx. 10mm diameter a long with chilled water some gas and a few electrical signals. So no Neil it wont fit in your tool box.

I guessed there was some gas, a laser beam wouldn't blow the sparks away like that.

You wouldn't want to startle the operator and have him turn quickly..

Compressed air was mentioned on the commentary

This is, apparently, why you don't see hand-held waterjet cutters any more

(not that I ever saw one in the first place !).

You can go back to Buck Rogers, starting in 1929 for a ray gun, and space ship.
