Watchmaker's tools :- What are these callipers used to measure, and what do they measure in, inches, MM, angles? I see on the internet that they could be in "lignes", and that it may be in 72nds of 1/2 inch with an accuracy of 1/32 (Didn't understand that). The scale is marked 0 – 72 and is marked 6,12,18 etc up to 72. At 72, the caliber jaws are 13.2mm wide.
Answer on a postcard please. Oh, there may be more questions coming up as I have 'inherited' the back end of a watchmaker's workshop with pinions, springs, tools etc etc.

You will notice in RJW's link the reference to a 'point'. A measure you are already familiar with in the size of the type you are now reading.
