I would like to use some Torx socket set (grub) screws for some projects but can’t seem to find a supplier. There is one hit that comes up in the UK but it’s for quoting so suspect they won’t be interested in supplying 10 off of a particular size! Not sure of sizes yet but metric from M3 to M6.

As most are wondering but not asking, why Torx, what are you hoping to gain over straight Allen grub screws.

Torx are much less likely to round off the socket, particularly in the smaller sizes.

              Counterbore and use screws?

Get better quality allen keys? I have a lot of carp allen keys and a few that are of far better quality.

There were two sources on the single ‘goggle’ page I searched on.

I found one size – M5x5 on eBay quite some time ago but they were in Germany and not cheap. Using Google.de I’ve found These – bottom of the page.

The problem I have found with Torx is that the next size down (to the correct size) key almost fits, without care it can easily be mistaken for the correct size key. If the fastener isn't too tight it will undo. If its tight then rounds out the socket nicely. My local BMW motorcycle dealer hates them because of this, they are frequently asked to remove a damaged Torx fastener by owners who are unfamiliar with them.

I must admit I’ve never had that problem and the Torx carbide insert screws on some of my tooling go down to M2.5.

Have to agree there torx are far superior in small sizes ,that’s why toolholders have torx to hold the inserts in

                        Vic,

At the recent London MX , I noticed that one trader had a range of Torx screws being sold individually , from what I recall , it would have been MA Tooling 07973843142 , or possibly Peak Tools , Of Hope Valley , Derbyshire .

I am sorry I can’t be more definite as to which it was , but the image of the tray at the end of the stand is very clear in my recollection, and if it helps anyone else remember , the stands were close to the displays of boats .

                        Hope it’s of some help

Torx are not unique to being damaged by use of the wrong size size key or tool. I have even heard of hexagon nut getting rounded corners.

I would have thought the BMW dealer would be happy to take on work caused by the customer damage, after all its business.
