Hi, I have been quoted £138 for a 6 mm thick 70 cm square sheet of 6082 T6 aluminium.

Is this a reasonable price? I have never bought it before so I don't have any idea!

Also, how heavy will this be (roughly)-could I carry it? I don't have a car and don't want to pay any more money for postage.

          David,

Try Clickmetal.co.uk. For your sizes they quote £63 + del

It's not a bad price but it's not great.

            **LINK**

It would weigh just under 8 kilos (17lbs)

            Oh and don't forget VAT

              Hi,

I can't help with the pricing but this page may help with the weight :-

              **LINK**

According to my calculation your will buying buying 2940 cm cu and it weighs 2.71g per cm cu.

              So that's a tad under 8kg.

              Peter.

                David,

Another useful stockist, worth checking, is Richard Austin Alloys

Their Manchester branch was very helpful when I wanted some Mic-6 cast tooling plate. … They located a very useful size off-cut, and internally shipped it from Scotland, for me to collect from Manchester.

I've only used them once, but they would certainly be my first contact if I need more.

Aluminium warehouse £53.63 = delivery (approx. £15.00) so no £138 is NOT a good price!

BTW: Aluminium warehouse list it as plate not sheet

Not exactly the same but I have a quote in my hand for a 750mm diameter 6mm thick 6062 disk with a 80mm hole in the centre (laser cut) and that is £106 incl vat and delivery.

Your price does seem high by comparison

Cut to size and delivered to door should be looking in region of £74 delivered.

Price keeps rising, just last two years close on 40% increase. Walk in with £100 and come out carrying one hand.

The quote was from Fays Metals in Acton, London, and included V.A.T. I live in London, but quite far away from Acton. I don't actually need this yet, it is for the mirror cell for a 20 inch telescope mirror. I haven't made the mirror yet and it could take a long time!

I was thinking I could save on delivery, but it seems I can get the aluminium delivered more cheaply than going and getting it ! I have a travel card for work so going to Acton wouldn't cost me anything.

I need some long tubes of aluminium eventually as well and so may well wait and order everything together.

I have used Aluminium Warehouse on the web for a few years, from a length of angle to several hundred £s worth of cut blanks, packing excellent they use long cardboard tubes for long thin items ,delivery good ,imperial and metric sizes,£15 delivery charge which does make small lots expensive, though the ali is cheaper than other suppliers.delivery by carrier

Delivery from Aluminium Warehouse is free if you collect, ok if you live close to Hatfield or as I did get a mate to collect as he worked close by.

Apologies for highjacking the thread but can someone recommend the best place/price for circa 200 x 3/16" snap head ali rivets?

                                    .

Now if you had wanted 1/4" or 1/8" I could have done you a sweet deal.
