Microscope eyepieces

I’ve finally got myself a ‘proper’ microscope to play with, and of course for use in countless domestic jobs! It all seems to work well with a very bright image, even without the ringlight switched on.

The only thing I’m puzzled about is that, compared with my el-cheapo binocular microscope, it’s quite difficult to hold my head in the right position to keep the whole image in view.  With the existing eyepieces I have to keep my eyes centralised at around 10mm from them. This means I have no physical reference to hold my head in the ideal position. Should there be some rubber eye-cups fitted help with this?

They eyepieces have a symbol on them which looks like a pair of spectacles. Perhaps this means this is how I should be using them. However there is no ‘height’ adjustment, as one would get on a pair of binoculars for instance.

So I’m thinking, something may be missing.  Any thoughts, and if yes, where would be a good place to get the bits I need to improve my “microscopical experience” ?

The glasses symbol identifies them as having long ‘eye-relief’ … meaning that they are suitable for use when wearing glasses, but it’s not mandatory

The inconvenience you describe is inevitable if you use them with naked eyes … and Yes, eyecups would then make life easier.
