      In plain sight

After spending ages searching for it and walking past it to boot, I gave up and went inside for a cheese sarmie and tea.

Came back and saw it straight away.

Geoff – Was installing cu piping for compressed air.

Geoff, instead of prettying up yer workshop, you should be getting that Austin 7 back on the road before you are too old to enjoy it !!

Just drilled ten parts each with two hols for M3, using 2.7mm drill. Tapped first part and tap fell in hole, seems new drill has cut oversize. Have ordered Helicoil kit, hopefully here tomorrow. Note to self drill and tap one hole before doing all in future.

2.7 hole for metric fine, 2.5mm for metric coarse. Don't ask how I know…

2.7 OK for less thread percentage with M3 x 0.5.

Great … I am not alone with all the mistakes I make … I once made a planked boat hull about 3 feet long without checking the frame for being true … I got on a roll with all the planks and just kept going … when finished it was a sideways banana shape … it was also a vertical banana shape on one side !! AAGH !! that was a definite sledge-hammer job.

How about building a small boiler and using 2 grades of silver solder … only thing was, I managed to use the lower temperature grade first ( easy flo 2 ) … when I used the second, higher temperature grade, all the first fixings and fire tubes neatly fell off and ended in a solid heap inside the boiler … AAGH !! I did try to salvage the boiler shell but managed to squash it in the vise … that was another sledgehammer job.

I have made dozens, if not hundreds, of superb co** u* s over the years.

I have a small container (might require a bigger one soon). It stores all of my 'whoopsies' and is located in an easily visible place………………Just to remind me!

                              Speedy,

I dare you to visit and describe it as pretty wink

                              Functional yes.

The cu piping is to give me easy and quick access to compressed air in place of the hoses on the floor, and tripping over them.

Had to make adapters to fit Quick Couplers to the three outlets.

One more connection to do then it's leak test time, then back into the Austin at last.

Geoff – Hospital next Friday for waterworks pouch examination again sad

                                a double oops for me

I needed to trim over my bridge crossing (we use the gates each side to trap the pet sheep for shearing) so I got out my big husquvarna strimmer. The cable needed letting out after last week's use. A common job Ive done hundreds of times. It's a left hand thread so undid it, took head off, sorted cable and the darned thing wouldn't go back on. I must have tried a dozen times, then examined the threads which looked perfect. Still wouldn't go. I carried it to hobby shed to see if I had a tap & die to clean them up Anyway. I get there and thinks.. darned it's a left hand thread – don't think I have left hand M12's. " You pratt it's a LEFT hand thread" – and put it back on.

Then I tied it to the quadbike to take it over the fields.. backed out of the barn and just caught one handle on a stanchion whereupon the ally casting that holds the handlebars to the main body cracked and broke off!!! (another little job for the list)

                                pgk
