Members who have seen any of my aero engine models at exhibitions may be interested to know that all three have recently been donated to the Avro Heritage Museum at Woodford. They should be on display later this year. I am pleased to say that the Museum was very keen to have them and will keep them in running order. They will also have my archive of drawings, engine manuals and various magazine articles written over the years.

The engines are all iconic replicas and built to a large scale of 1/3 or 1/2.

Well done. Great to have good models available to see for the long term.

If it wouldn’t cause too much embarrassment, I wonder whether it would be possible to insert/embed  a link or two to add a bit of context for those who haven’t seen (or heard!) Stephen’s rather lovely engines.

Good to know they are going there, and not to disappear into a ‘never-to-be-seen’ private collection.

And especial thanks for making so much ‘available’ over the years – inspiring work.

Links are best found by typing “aerowez” into Youtube. There are 6 vids, all very amateur.

I had been tempted to sell them by auction simply because most museums have no interest in or space for models.

However the thought of my work disappearing like you say, probably abroad, decided the issue. In any case there isn’t much monetary value in these things while Avro have been extremely welcoming and proactive in the project.

I am also giving away all the tooling for making the alloy castings to anyone willing to collect. Patterns for sand casting, wax mould boxes, silicone rubber patterns for RPM casting, etc. All reusable if you can find a foundry willing to work with you.

Pity to throw it all away but the museum has no use for it.

All in the south of England.
