midget or needle laps

Searched the web last night for a supplier of midget (needle) laps in the UK without success, lots in the US who most likely would supply, but would like to avoid the shipping and import hassle that the Post Office impose, anyone any idea who might be able to supply in this country? Cheers GW

Have you tried watchmakers supplies – jewellery centre in Birmingham if you are any where near there.

Thanks for raising the question … I had never seem Midget Laps but they do look very useful.

One of the advertisers is MSC; which I think also has a UK operation.

Did you misread? MSDiscount is an advertiser, have search MSC (USA) website with no hits. Certainly nothing either on MSC UK operation web.

KWIL MSC (US) list the midget laps, I looked at them this morning.

You do get some other interesting Google results when looking for "Midget Laps" so I can understand Michael getting distracted

No tool supplier in the Jewellery Quarter has them, only 1/2 hour by train from there, searched watch and clock making tools without success either. Many companies, including MSC, in the States list them but stock not held in the UK by MSC, lead time is 4/6 weeks to bring them in and currency conversion rate is a bit of a shock. Waiting on supplier in the US who I used a while back for barrel laps, it's the messing about with our Post Office that annoys, they put a card through the door saying they've arrived, then I have to go to main office in town and wait in a queue to be dealt with by disinterested staff and then charged an arm and a leg for the privilege, sweet. Will do it if I have to but if there's a better way …………………………….

Remember that the Post Office nonsense only cuts-in when you exceed the £15 purchase price threshold.

The last couple of things I have had from the US the card has dropped through the door, go to the web address on the card and pay the duty etc and postie drops package through the door the next day. What could be simpler and more convenient?

I think one I did not even get the card, just an e-mail saying it was waiting for me to pay duty probably saved a day as the postie did not have to deliver card.

Do gun smiths use them?

If you're confident doing it that way then OK, I prefer not to enter my card details on any home computer I have no matter the site. Had enough files over my desk when I was working to put me off doing it. Purchase will be over £15 as they're sold in packs and will source sizes that I need and that look useful for the future as well. Had email from the US they're willing to ship to UK.

Thank you Michael you did indeed help, the MSC connection led me to 'phone them and they're willing to bring in anything that is not listed here but that is listed in the US, just the time frame and J&L, now MSC, were never the cheapest, pushed me towards another supplier there, will be in the post tonight, just have to get through the expected hassle at the main PO office. Thanks again.

Just a quick update. Parcel dropped through the door today, total value $35.60, no card advising arrival and no visit to the main office with the usual waiting around to collect.. Had it packaged differently this time, had them use a 'jiffy' type bag rather than boxed to withstand major impact, I wonder if that was the reason it was delivered to the door.
