      maybe a stupid question but i'm interested to know.

      why are there pins/dowels in bases of marking gauges? some have 2 some 4 why? they don't seem to serve any purpose to me or am I missing something? could someone enlighten me

          They're to guide it along the edge of a surface plate

            Also along your milling machine table to clock your work, Inwonder if the eastern M/C tables are as true as the British made etc were?
