Later versions of my lathe had these volute protectors for the Leadscrew, but I wondered about how much they would compress, (being Volute, they would , presumably compress down the to the length of one coil) But could not face the hassle of the strip down and drilling/tapping for the end fittings
. Some lathes have a cover above the leadscrew, which looks like an inverted, small scale gutter. Now that starts me wondering if something like that could be fitted above the leadscrew, on mine (might keep some swarf off the Feedshaft as well). Looks like another possible project.
