I’m Steve. Located in Dumfries and Galloway. Relatively new to machining.

I recently picked up an old Mikron T90 lathe which I’m hoping to clean up and get working well.

If anyone has any leads on any parts like chucks, collets, or cross slide / carriage I am the guy that will buy them from you and relieve you of some clutter 😅

        Welcome aboard, Steve

That should be a fine machine.

… good luck for the bits you want

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thank you gentlemen. Yes it’s a capstan from around 1939. They made many different variations of the headstock and carriage. I’m hoping I can get a different carriage allowing travel in both axis. They made 6 different versions but sadly for me I don’t think they are very common in UK. Some schaublin accessories fit but they cost an arm and a leg and likely more than I paid for the machine.</p>

Even with a moving carriage that capstan tailstock is eating up a lot of bed length. OK if you want to make batch parts but not so practical if you want the machine for general machining which the change of carriage suggests. But if you are the type that prefers the restoration to making things then thats fine.

I agree. A tailstock will likely be a necessity further down the line. I like to make pens, so I don’t require too much travel initially. But for more longer parts you are likely right. I do have another portass lathe aswell but I really wanted this to be my main machine. There’s just something about it. I’m not sure how many of these are kicking around in the UK. I’m hoping someone sees the many ads I’ve posted online for parts. I’m going to strip it all down soon. Everything on the lathe has little cams which go up and down to slide on and off the lathe. The cams are quite sticky and a bugger to get right. So first job will be tearing them down. You can see the round buttons that slide on the lathe in this photo. There’s a little button toggle at the side which you turn to lower them up and down but they are very stiff.
