I wonder if anyone can help me with a source for HSS TCMT 1603 replacement tips? I worked for a company about 20 years ago and they had various types of tips in High Speed Steel.

The supplier was a common supplier of tips at the time but the name totally escapes me. Can anyone remember and if they are still available?

          Alistair,

There are plenty of sources for TCMT 1603-04 but they are Tungsten Carbide not High Speed Steel. Are you sure about the HSS bit?
Google throws up hobby supplies with a range of prices. See what you think.

Like these AR Warner tips? I use these, and think they're great. But have to order them from Little Machine Shop…

I too use A.R.Warner HSS tips. Top stuff, easy to give a touch up to on a diamond plate. They are not cheap but they are excellent!!

              cheers

Do you have an internet link for 'Plansee'? Tried googling but did not see anything helpful.

Thanks for all the info and yes Plansee was the name I was looking for!

There was also an American supplier but that was many years ago!

Just got to find a supplier but at least I can now search for something.

                      Thanks to all!

Another, not very well known manufacturer, is Alesa

Here, the HSS inserts, but beware: they are not cheap! It is possible to get them piecewise, though.
