I've had this Sievert HFV for about 60 years. I bought it from new. The last time I used it properly was last year, when it seemed OK. On May 1st this year I thought I needed to use the Propane torch, so I tested it out and had to exercise the HFV a few times before the hose filled and the torch was usable. As it happened, the weather precluded it's use, so I put it away until yesterday, when I discovered it was unusable.

Does anyone know if, and how, it can be repaired?

Having worked in the hydraulics industry for many years I know that HFV's in that context are classed as unrepairable. I would imagine the LP gas regulations contain similar rules.

I personally would not want to rely on a repaired HFV. The cost of a new one will be much less than injury or death associated with a hose failure.

          regards

Thanks, that rather confirms my suspicions.

            I've ordered a new one.

Can you take the old one apart and show us the works when the new one arrives? I would guess that there is a valve kept open by a very weak spring on the downstream side but I have never heard of one of these. I think they would work well if the pipe was severed, but not so likely if it just leaked.

I think a better description would be excess flow shutoff.
